Overview of SSC CGL 2026
The Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) examination is one of India's most sought-after competitive exams for recruiting Group B and Group C officers in government ministries, departments, and organizations.
Exam Structure & Tier Breakdown
- Tier-I (Computer Based Test): Qualifying in nature, covering 4 sections (Reasoning, Quant, English, General Awareness) with 100 questions for 200 marks in 60 minutes.
- Tier-II (Computer Based Test): Final merit ranking tier comprising Paper I (Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning, English Language, General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge) plus Data Entry Speed Test.
Subject-Wise Preparation Strategy
1. Quantitative Aptitude
Focus on foundational concepts in Arithmetic (Percentage, Profit & Loss, Ratio & Proportion, Time & Work) before advancing to Higher Math (Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra, Mensuration). Practice at least 30-50 questions daily with time constraints.
2. Reasoning Ability
Reasoning is the most scoring section. Prioritize Analogy, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Syllogisms, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Accuracy and speed are key.
3. English Language & Comprehension
Build vocabulary through daily editorial reading. Focus on Grammar rules (Subject-Verb Agreement, Tenses, Prepositions), Reading Comprehension passages, and Cloze Tests.
4. General Awareness
Divide General Awareness into Static GK (History, Geography, Indian Polity, Economics, Science) and Current Affairs (last 6-8 months). Make concise revision notes.
